Pre Islamic Arabia
The religion of Islam began during the seventh century CE on the Arabian peninsular in the territory, which is the modern day Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Arabian Peninsula is an extremely dry desert region with very little abundant soil, it is basically an area conquered by sandy ridges. The two major cities associated with the origins of Islam are the cities of Mecca and Medina. The local religions were mostly polytheistic; often they had a well-developed cultic practice with temples, priests, sacrificial rituals and the main being idol worshippers. Islam is a monotheistic (believing in one God) religion, which simply means “surrender” or “submission” to God, Islam is a religion based around the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. The Quran, which is the sacred text of Islam, provides the teachings of the Prophet that were revealed to him from Allah (God). One of the important beliefs in Islam is that Allah is the one and true God and there is nothing equivalent to him. Muslims are supposed to pray five times a day by their commitment to Allah, there is no specific way in how to practice Islam besides devoting their time to god and following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.
