Prinipal events in muhammad's life
Tradition indicates that Muhammad's grandfather Abd-al-Muttalib was an unrealistic sorcerer who amongst other things is supposed to have been show the location of an ancient water supply.
Prophet Muhammad was married to Khadija also known as “the wealthy widow”; he loved her very much and admired her. That night the angel Jibril appeared to Muhammad three times and ordered him to read aloud, each time he confirmed himself unable of doing so. All of a sudden a powerful breakthrough the Prophet Mohammed sensed inside what the words were and he began to announce them from his heart without having the ability to read them. When he returned home he told Khadija what had happened to him and although she had doubts she was convinced by her cousin and was the first to accept the message and believe. Even though the first revelation was brought down to him, Muhammad did not tell others of what had happened and kept it inside him, only his family and knew of the experience. He pondered over his experience for almost two years before receiving further revelations.
The angel Jibril appeared to Muhammad again with the command to announce the message "arise and warn! Glorify Allah! Make your garments pure! Give up all uncleanness. Give, without expecting any return. For the sake of your Lord, endure with patience!" (Surah 74:1-7).
This was the beginning of Muhammad’s revelation, he was preaching for the rest of his life from then on while receiving further messages from Allah. Prophet Muhammad faced many calamities, his uncle Abu Talib and wife Khadija passing away in the same year had a large affect on him who did not allow him to see beyond the enemies who wanted him dead. Things escalated quickly in Mecca, which led to the death of Bilal who is regarded as the first martyr in Islam, Muslims called it the year of sorrow. The night journey is a very significant time that the Prophet experienced because he experienced a great vision known as “Laylat-ul-Mi’raj” one night Muhammad was sleeping when the angel Jibril took him to Jerusalem and through the seven heavens to see a vision of heaven and hell. The prophet was then brought into the presence of Allah. He also received instructions that people should pray 5 times each day. His teaching included the need for regular fasting as well as the obligation of the regular prayer times he also arranged a time for money to be collected and then given to the poor. Time after many conflict happened with the Jews living in Medina so after battles, fighting and arguing Mecca finally became the Holy city of Islam, dedicated to Allah. The prophet died at 63 years of age in 632 CE.
